direction cuts,snapcuts,rope assisted,bowlines,saw attached to platform,not your belt,starting out side basket,how to recover when its all gone wrong,,,,what else is there..........

John, could you ask about using a powered pole saw from the cage.

Whether it's good practice or not and if so does it need to be tethered. I'm sure I know what the answers are, just intrigued to hear what NPTC has to say.

Can't seem to find this covered anywhere.

Are you having the course in-house or externally.

We had the course internally about 3 months ago, and then for one reason or another the test was posponed 3 times! I've also found it very hard to find a suitable tree for the test (4 of us taking the test and each one having to cut at least two vertical sections)

 

I will ask about the pole-saw...watch this space! Might even take the camera!

hi guys i took my 47 and found it all ok other than the machine that was hired for the course was keyless!!good old hire shops.!!thought you should also be aware though after having one site insisting i also had ipaf or national plant operators cert, some sites get a bit funny with the nptc cert. when i quizzed the companies forman he said it was about being machine specific not about the use of saw frommt he cage.has anyone else come across this. typically its just to cover all bases but if your taking the 47 ticket be aware some may ask to see your ipaf qualifications too.by the way the ipaf cert really shoud be harder, they even give you the3 answers.

this is something i've pondered over a few times & has come up in conversation at work a few times as well, is it really worth getting the cs47 unit when you've already got your using a chainsaw from rope & harness ticket & you've got an IPAF licence? Surely the types of cuts are the same, getting into a good work postion etc etc. This is not a slagging off for the unit i'm generaly interested in what it entails. My understanding of it was that it was for the guys & gals who have'nt got a cs38/39 to be able access the crown & know the different types of cuts etc etc. If i'm totally wrong then i do apologise but I cant help thinking that good old nptc/HSE are putting together courses just for the sake of it.
