Logging advice please!

Hi

I'm not a tree expert, so I've come here to the home of the experts

I have several mature (2ft diameter) oak trees which were felled two years ago and left on the land. I intend to:

  1. cut them into 4m lengths
  2. drag them to the roadside (about 50m)
  3. take them to the local sawmill for planking

It's in France, but don't suppose that makes any difference.

I've got a small but decent chainsaw, and need to buy a tirfor I think.

Any advice from you guys?

I would not fancy using a tirfor to drag the logs 50 meters, it will take hours. And you will loose half of you body weight in sweat. I would see if a local farmer can hoik it out with his tractor. The logs will also be alot less dirty, and the saw mill wont worry about stones in the bark

There, I knew it was a good idea to ask the question here. Of COURSE I wasn't going to drag them out with a tirfor :blushing: how dumb would that be? I can just picture my wife's face...

As it happens there are some very friendly farmers nearby who I'm sure would help.

So, I just need a BIG chain........

Thanks guys
