spliced Tachyon

My 50 metre Tachyon had a run in some time back with my sugoi. Needless to say, the splice had to go.

I have been meaning to get it respliced so off it went. I got the rope back today and Mick and myself thought it didn't look right. For a start the splicer couldn't manage to get the eye any smaller than in the pics. Even though I requested a tight eye.

sorry for the correct lack of terminology. The part here the eye inserts back into the rope seem to have had all the core removed and seemed very floppy, unlike many of the splices I have had before. The splice seemed a little lumpy and a distinct lack of taper.

I decided not to climb on it and remove and bit more of the already 47 metre rope. took a few pics and dissected it.

Question...

was the splicer lazy and couldn't be bothered burying the splice correctly?

was it wrong of him to remove the core where the splice reinserts into the rope?

was i correct in not trusting it... or was it constructed correctly and could it have been saved?

your comment are eagerly anticipated.

next time i may try myself.

I dont think thats even the correct splice for a class one double braid. Difficult to tell from pics but its looks like they've just opened up the cover and shoved the core back in.

Get a decent arb splicer to do it for you.

Thats deffinatly not right mate!!

It looks like there was no taper what so ever and kind of looks like they've just fed a fid through and just tried ramming the crap out of it!!

Was the purple inner core still in there too?

If you need it splicing mate id be happy to do it for you.
