I’m no expert mate but I assume they are little extension trumpets fitted with wire gauze to stop the dust etc ruining that precious engine.

Cheers Sean, that one was taken at 1/25 Sec.

 

It takes a little practice as on that spot the cars are accelerating up to about 90mph at that point. The pics are just converted to B&W on Nikons own software, the wide-angle shots have just had a lighting effect added through photo-shop because my lens doesn’t accept a filter.
