on all these "best saw" threads i never hear anything about Komatsu, i have 621AVS which will take 20 inch bar, but we also run about four 500's, they are awesome saws, might not have quite the poke of a husky but super reliable. Be interested to hear what anyone else thinks about them?

What made you switch?

Kinda difficult to explain really, for me they feel abit more gutsy, prefer the feel in my hands/balance i guess, and stoopid as it may be I prefer the engine/exhaust sound, not very scientific I'm afraid:biggrin:

I no what u mean. I like huskys. Just dont think they are as reliable as stihls and for the money the bigger saws cost i want it to last me till im seventy and theres no trees left!

Thats just my experiences though and im sure other peoples are diffrent. How do you rate the reliablitly of the husky?

I wouldnt want to run a 25" on my 441 all the time, once in a while is ok, but I like a 20" on there for everyday use.

I have a 25" on my 660, that has the advantage of being able to put a bigger bar on if you needed it.

460 would be a good choice if you can still get one.

Me neither, Ive had my 365 7 years and the only thing thats gone wrong is the ignition coil and that was MY fault for not putting it back togther properly :blushing::blushing: after some maintanence.

Only had the 390xp a couple of months but it is quality

I feel qualified to post on this since over the last 2 years I have tried most of the options!

I think my first ever post on Arbtalk was about 70-80cc saws.

First, I got the Makita DCS7901. Angry revvy saw and dirt cheap for the power / weight but I never had that "mystical bond between man and machine" with it. Plus the back handle broke twice but was replaced under warranty no probs.

Next I had a Husqy 390XP; this was VERY smooth and had a nice exhaust sound ! Much better built than the makita imo and obviously more power. Saying that the rear handle again seemed very plasticky and the trigger clumsily hinged in the handle body.

Then I found out that Stihl were going to be discontinuing the MS460 so I ordered one feeling I MUST live with one before it's too late! It arrived before I sold the 390xp. My word! For me, the 460 felt better than both the above saws and seemed to snort through the timber as good as the 390 (25" bar vs 28" tho) and better than the Makita by a long mile.

This exercise showed me two things: When Stihl get a saw right, even an older design, boy it's good. Second, power figures on paper don't manifest in real life.

Prior to saying goodbye to the 390 I remember lifting the new 460 and realising also that it was MUCH lighter than the Husqy.

I was a Stihl man after all!
