Depends on who you take the course with . If its a private operator then most of the time you will provide all the PPE and saw and same for the day of the test but you will be told this before you pay for your course so you know what the score is .

If your on a longer collage course then I think they will help you and provide kit on your course and for your test .

I did mine through a private opperator and provided all my stuff .but most are helpfull and if there is a problem they will do there best to help you with kit if they can .

If you are going to buy a saw if you can go for new then its better in the long run . as you know its history and can look after it from the start.

hey JD,

if you're looking for the cheapest saws in our area go to dougie ivison up at melmerby. e puts a massive discount on all his saws and kiy. well worth the extra drive out to his place.

he often has a range of saws that he's reconditioned and selling second hand but i'd still buy new unless you're really not expecting to use it much.

a 353 by husky is a great saw to start. i think doug sold me one for £290. it's still running fine 5 years later. the 357 is a great saw but a bit more moody and a hell of a lot more £££.

All the kit lists I've ever had for CS units include an individual first aid kit. I saw them on ebay a while ago for £7.50 plus postage.

For what's in them that's not good value I think.

The one I was issued with at work (Environment Agency) contains 1 extra large wound dressing, 1 pair of surgical gloves, 4 sterile wipes, half a dozen plasters and a whistle.

We have to have the kit with us whenever we pick up a saw, I keep mine in the thigh pocket of my trousers, the guys that wear braces often slide the belt loops on the yellow pouch onto their braces, some just keep it on their belt.

I reckon having the ingredients of the kit in your pocket would comply for the purposes of passing the units and keep your costs down too.

Angus.
