i phoned my local stihl dealer for a 14" chain for my ms180, now they are based 8miles from me, price with vat £23.50, then i phoned jonesie and spoke to jo, price was half that and free delivery and il probably get it first thing in the morning aswel.

so whats the deal, jonesie is in lewisham my local dealer is in sittingbourne, not to far from me.

so why no discounts, dont they want the trade, its easier to get from justin and get it in the post the next day than have to leave site early and brave the traffic then get ripped off the second i walk threw the door,

the old man wanted a 12" bar and chain for his husky top handle saw, justin's price was atleast £12 cheaper, from now on i know where im buying my kit from:thumbup:

Too right mate. It nice to support the local guys if you can, But if they don't want to help you. Find someone that will!! My local dealer wouldn't give you the steam off his piddle . Speaking to a mate who was in the shop as a young lad was setting himself up with climbing gear, total came to just under a grand, asked if he could have any discount and was given a £2-99 penknife.

Local is nice, but, if its a matter of saving some serious money.....

Your not getting ripped off thats just the full list price that is set by stihl.Granted you should get a bit of dis off your chain with you being trade. justin buys so much chain he can offer great prices which is fantastic but your local dealer might not .remember your dealer is trying to make a living just like everybody else i do agree he should give some dis tho.

thing round here is that some of the so called stihl dealers arent, they are buying in from other authorised main dealers, and as such they wont and cant offer discount, i was at an open evening of one of the dealers the other week, and they had stihl reps there and they would only sell you the items with something weak like 5% off RRP, i can get about 20% of with my local dealer, but only once i buy enough stuff from them, they cant be expected to sell everything below RRP to every joe blogs that walks in its about building a relationship up with them.

That said i will use online sales if its not something urgent and i can find a decent discount, if its only a quid or so dearer then i will use the local dealers, as i can nip in and stock up on other kit and get help if something breaks

I agree with you buddy about creating relationships but when my local guys are trying to rip me off with used kit that is more than a grand more than newer stuff its kind of hard to create relationships!!

Even if I need something urgent Jonsie will deliver it the following day - at a reduced price than anywhere else I've found!:thumbup1:

Contacted the boys at FR Jones and will be ordering a new 200t for £150 less than my local dealer!

Same here mate. The prices that Justin was selling them for at Capel inc Vat, were still cheaper than what local dealer was doing exc Vat. :sneaky2:

Who are you going to choose? It a no brainer for me.

I had a fall out with my local Stihl dealer over them repairing my saw after it had fallen into a lake. The reason I was angry was the fact I'd not asked them to repair it, just give me an estimate and if it was actually worth repairing!!

Anyway, that said, they do do good deals on things like this new 260. The RRP is £628.63 but they're selling it for £477.25
