utr number in arb work??

doing work for a new company and theyve asked for my utr no., its not a problem ive got it and not got a problem using it, but im just wondering if its necessary in arb work? as i thought it was a construction industry thing, hence being reffered to as cis number sometimes.

If your doing work for a construction company then they can ask for it. Usually UTR is just a check that you have it. CIS is a little more required, but onlu UTR and NI, and you have to register CIS with the IR.

 

If you are doing arb work for the benefit of a construciton job (i.e. to allow the construction to go ahead) then you should be CIS registered but many get round it.

Cheers rupe, like I said no probs paying it, as it saves having a bill at the end of the year. But don't understand why some people want it and some don't. Out of the half dozen or so people I've worked for recently only 2 have wanted it. I think it's probably misleading being tied up with the cis card.
