I am erecting a 6 foot fence using concrete posts. Right in the middle of the fence line is a laburnum, anyone got any ideas as to the best way of fencing up to the tree?. It cant be felled and i dont want to screw/nail/bolt to the tree.

Not sure what solution to offer you mate. The issues are obvious I guess. I applaud your not wanting to nail the tree. It will always be a temporary solution but it is this that leads to nailing and screwing which then never gets removed...and ofetn gets further bodged as the fence and tree "outgrow" each other.

fit a post approx 1 metre either side of the tree then when you fit the rails make them over hang to the tree. then when you fix the feather edge boards scribe the last board into the tree for a good fit

I was just about to write a long-winded confused version of this. Well put mate:thumbup1::laugh1:

How will that work with concrete posts though?? I normally put a post in as close as possible to the tree, then there is no set way of doing it, it's always a compromise as the tree will always grow and cause problems or die eventually. I guess you've just got to use a bit of creative joinery.
