Carl - Just grabbed this from the Petzl site. Its part of the original manufacturers instructions that you should get when buying a helmet.

'ATTENTION, certain chemical products, especially solvents, can damage your helmet. Protect your helmet from exposure to chemicals.'

Dont want to be a kill joy...but even the chemicals associated with stickers and decals will be considered by manufacturers as a source of contention if the helmet fails in the field.,..just something you need to be aware of......

In my opinion, there is no reason why you cant paint your helmet, as you say, Sherrill do a very expensive custom paint petzl, and I know someone in the UK who has had a vertex painted in camo colours.

If you took it to someone who paints motorcycle or hockey helmets I'm sure they could give you a professional opinion.

As far as I am concerned, all those dire warnings about stickers and paint from the manufactorers are pure arse covering.

if the helmet fails in the field...

You don't want to be inside a helmet when the shell fails:scared: Have you ever taken a sledge hammer to an out of date helmet?? It's great- they're just so tough.... the harness inside is the bit that deforms and collapses to save your melon.

Has anyone been clever enough to put a military field dressing in the 'spare' space between the harness and the shell??? :drunk: :drunk: which bright spark thought up that one.....

Actually, that is "supposed" to degrade the protection ability of the hardhat.

Yeah, right.
