First aid, the ultimate arbs kit?

Recommended Posts

I said

O.k scenario, your out on a private estate, doing some big oaks fair treck to the road, your buddy cuts his arm pretty darn bad/or leg. he has an arterial bleed but has got to the deck himself at a blistering pace and is now unconcious in a heap on the deck.

To get himself to the deck he must have been conscious at least for a moment, he would have mentioned the cut I am sure.

You still wouldn’t put them in the recovery position without treating the bleed that is going to kill them in the next couple of minutes

Dont get the ump, assimilate the info and move on

What’s to research? This is not Rambo where he stitches his arm back together in the field with a survival kit. Forget the “Mc Guyver” stuff and get yourself to where someone can render assistance before you become unconscious. Simple as.

Come on, now. The research I am talking about is a qualified judgement of what is the most reasonable action to take in a certain situation, e.g. whether to make the 999 call before attempting to stop an arterial bleed from yourself (assuming noone is around to help).

Good man....So do I though, it's called a climbing line, a prussick, adyneema sling, a belt, a t shirt arm, bootlace, .....................................................

Right. and after you've wrapped your climbing line around your arm, how do you proceed to descend? :001_tt2:

In my opinion, as long as you can stop a major bleeding quickly, you can afford to leave the rest to the paramedics.

Do you climb with no side strop ??

Come on, I was trained for major trauma not sticky plaster stuff.

Missing legs arms and guts hanging out. You sometimes have to improvise even field dressing will not be enough sometimes, I would even cut a wound open to grab the artery if neccessary, even on myself if I could

I think the climbing line was just one thing on a list, the point is that something can be used a tournequet, and then you are right, if you stop the bleeding you can leave the rest to the paramedics.

Bleeding is our main problem. Broken limbs, minor cuts, concussion, even burns don't actually need any first aid. Something to keep the person comfy maybe, re assurance is important.

I just think that if we see the need to seperate ourselves from the rest of the work place with a special "arb aid" kit then the HSE will step in and take extra measures to bring us back in line with everyone else.

The important thing is to plan and to work in such a way that the normal first aid kits will be sufficient. i.e. bring the risk down not the safety kit up!

In hamas example, on a big estate, a grid reference is vital for air ambulance.

My mate flies air ambulance but is not a paramedic, I'll ask him if he chats to them about this kind of thing, exept he's usually pissed when I see him!!
