Dual Mass Flywheels

Suspect mine is on the way out - judder in the driveline (estate car), the shakes under high load, a little vibration through the clutch pedal (but none in neutral). In my case the potential cost is thousands - :scared1::crying:

 

Plus, also in my case apparently it can wreck the main bearing since the high compression (v6 diesel) causes it to run out of balance... Some grief for an engine with 45K on it...

 

Any advice ???

 

I know, it's an off the wall one...

John are you sure your not going in at the deep end a bit...? Have you checked stuff like props, cv joints,worn sus/ engine/ gearbox mounts, warped hubs etc etc as these sort of things can all create weird judders too? Just hoping its not what you think mate.

I know, it's an off the wall one...

 

 

 

Just had to have one replaced on a ford ranger.... thank god for warranty!!

 

I'd get it checked out ASAP at a good garage mate..

I hope you're right Dean; wasn't a Saab dealership though, just a legitimate used car sales co. Vehicle has full Robert Bowett (Leeds) service history too :confused1:

 

My reading suggests too that they are nowt but trouble; fitted to high torque common rail diesels in particular (which mine is) to iron out vibes.

 

Cost of flywheel is a couple of hundred but the time to change it means mega labour bills which I simply can't afford. I guess it's a ramp job, seperating block from gearbox (drain fluids?) and all that?

 

Should possibly do the clutch at the same time?
