ive been there also with same setup, hilux with entec, shovelling it out, never again. the bloke who said to u about having a smaller chipper as you can use the bigger logs for firewood is talking crap. so when yo have felled a big conifer and have a mountain of green non burning conifer branches to chip up are you going to think to yourself hmm im glad ive got this pissy 4" chipper.

For me chipper size has nothing to do with branch diameter. Its all about snapping forks, i keep everything above 4" for logs but i have an 8" chipper because it can snap big forks and has a wide appeture so you dont spend ages cutting bits up just so you can get them through a small chipper.

I started with a 6" and i certainly would'nt go smaller than that. Remember time is money.

Been on this topic before and we all start with smaller chippers and then maybe get bigger if budjet allows. I had a small chipper and the fella I work with, who does most of the dragging/chipping would go if we went back to the old days!

A tipper has to be the best investment, though you may put a few pounds on when you just push the tip button:icon14:

I started with tipper and 6 inch chipper still have them perfect combo dont need bigger never go smaller. I cant believe you guys shovel chip why not buy a tipper instaed of a hilux which is overloaded after a bonsai is chipped lol.

It's not a case of what you need - a bigger chipper just makes chipping a darn site quicker and easier. What reason would you not want a bigger chipper for??

Surely if your that worried about speed you would buy a grab lorry.

 

Now I have my 10" PTO set up nicely it makes skanky conifers a lot easier.
