Staged but not fake I think. I reckon the car has a canon under it to make it jump/roll, and the ball is soft and light (ish) and restrained so only clips the car.

Having driven a dragline wrecking ball I can tell you that vid is a fake.

Balls are usually pear shaped and made of steel, the ball in the vid is about three times larger than a wrecking ball. “Balling” a structure requires a dragline crane. The ball is suspended on the cranes main line and drawn back towards the crane with the drag line then released to smack whatever is in its path. The cranes used are usually crawler types, the 22 RB was a favourite.

Swinging a ball by moving the jib (slewing) requires extreme finesse or risks pulling the crane over. The crane in the vid is as unsuitable as it gets and is missing the all important dragline. It also doesn’t move when the ball swings and if that van were hit by as ball it wouldn’t flip like that, it’s only made of tin and the ball would bury itself into the van and carry it on its trajectory.

A jolly jape all the same

Faked or staged Andy?

I still think staged, not photo shopped. I think the van did roll over, but not cos of the ball.

Opinion on the net seems to be that its a film set??

It is true that it seems odd that the ball stops intantly instead of continuing with the car going sideways.

I think thats due to the laws of force transfer as in newtons balls, the force is cleary taken by the car which flies some distance, not suprising the ball almost ceases to move after the impact.

I am dissappointed in you Tony.

That law only works with masses of equal weight and density

The wrecking ball is obviously a much greater mass than the car and the car absorbs energy because it is of a different density.

Hi Rupe,

I would go with staged rather than photo shopped, the ball is the giveaway, watch it dance around on the cable after the van flips, a steel ball that size would weigh many tonnes and wouldn’t have known it hit that van much less jiggled about like that.
