My two 020t's are ten years old or more and still run like Ben Johnson on a Belgian mix, granted, I have rebuilt them/new rings/replaced parts etc but really, there is no other.

Yeah Tim it's a split in the rubber I would wager.

I want to rebuild my 020t but Im not sure its worth it.

I know it needs a new carb kit because It wont run with the carb its got on but when I put one on from work it seemed to work. It also needs a modern breather pipe and I bodged the stop wire with a bit of earth cable when it snapped. I have also snapped one of the bolts holding on the Exhaust. The Ht lead also pops off the spark plug (I did have a cork in there holding it on) oh and It needs new AV rubbers.

Rebuild or scrap?:confused1:

if I Rebuild it, is it easy to put new rings in ?

How do you compress them when you fit the piston back in ?

waste of time just doing the rings as the piston is worn & has whats called piston slap , ,new piston & rings & it will last longer :001_smile:

All easy if you know how:001_smile:

You have to strip the saw right down to get at rings, well most of the way anyhow. But you will have to strip it down more or less to sort the exhaust bolt out.

Its worth a go just to get a feel for how the saws work if you have any interest in it.

The rings can be squeezed by hand as you lower the cylinder or you can buy a special tool(its a bit of cloth type stuff, must be all of £2 worth) I keep meaning to get one but never get round to it.

As for the carb are you sure it just needs a kit and isnt damaged beyond repair?

I can email you over a workshop manual, or actually I might have a link where you can DL it from. I'll have a look.
