relativley new industry? Thers a few folk, Archeologists that would argue with you two on that front!

I think in honesty in the past there were very few if any "arborists", they were nearer to foresters.

Surely we are now just debating the purpose of amenity tree care?

Trees don't need us per se (although managed pollards are some of our oldest and long-lived trees) but in areas where people and trees co-exist management is inevitable.

I think our purpose as arbs is to promote and maintain a good sustainable relationship between folk and trees.

Nice work by the way Tony - your skill in shaping crowns is top notch.

Indeed I do.

But as Mark points out, I never kid my self that trees need me, I try to give my customers what they want, whilst doing as little damage to the tree as I can.

If the tree could decide, 99.9% of all our work would not be done.

Trees do sometimes need me to prune them.

Otherwise they would be sent to the great firewood pile in the sky.:thumbup1:

Okay pruning no matter how much or little it is, isnt any good for the tree but I bet the tree would prefer it to being felled.

I've saved a few trees that would have been doomed but sent more to there grave though!:001_rolleyes:
