hi guys - i did something incredibly stupid today and drove off with my trusty ecrin roc on the top of the chipper, sadly on closer inspection of everywhere i'd driven, it was no more. I'm not going to buy another ecrin roc, but what else is good out there? I've been looking at the kask helmets, but they look a little 'top gun' for my tastes...

Any ideas?

Hello gingerking, sorry you lost your lid but its probably a blessing in disguise if you get the Kask. They're a great lid and can be fitted with a slick looking Peltor visor like mine instead of the topgun thing. Some will tell you that they are too hot to wear but dont listen to em, they're the ones that moan about everything lol.

Youre not the first to leave your lid on the chipper and then drive off, i've never done it, yeah right! I wear a basic Husky lid with just an elastic chin strap which I have no probs with, some colleagues of mine have the Petzl's but they feel heavier than mine. Does anyone still wear the "basic" lid these days because it certainly doesn't affect my climbing ability, or does it, am I missing out on something?

If you have a tendency to overheat during summer, there is only one choice: Petzl vertex Vent. Choice of colours: red, orange, yellow, white, black (although black defeats the purpose of the vents).

The Petzl Altios is also a good choice if you are looking for a cooler head :001_smile:. Combine it with safety glasses and ear plugs, it's a seriously light weight helmet and with the internal suspension system, the helmet floats above your head giving a near weightless feeling.
