Anything doing the rounds involving paying an import tax before delivery? Had a card shoved through the door, son is racing in States and this parcel is from Merica but he dont think it is him!

The card through the door, does it look like a genuine ups one? How does it want payment, through the ups website?

Pay it by credit card, if item doesnt arrive or is not something you want then do a charge back through the bank. How much is the fee?

Doubtful it's a scam if it's a card through the door, but would ask which company the cards from.

FedEx for example tend to text a payment reference, which you can login via website.

Granted I never click the link but type it in via my computer and make sure it's legit.

You must have a shipment number so that should tell you where it has come from. If the duty is paid directly to USP then I can't see how a scammer will get the funds, it is usually a dodgy link, false web site etc.

If you don't pay it, the parcel will go back to the US. You could enquire who the sender is.

Nearly £70 in duty and it does look legit and Tom ordered a racing ECU for his drag racers but that was to go to Texas! Will see if I can ring them, Tom flys back in on Wednesday!

Ignore it then.

Fraudulent Text Messages, Phone Calls and Other Communications

In addition to fraudulent websites and emails, fraudsters also may use the telephone, text messages, a fax machine, letters, or other communication methods in an attempt to gather your personal information. These fraudulent communications are the unauthorised actions of third parties not associated with UPS. Fraudulent communications claiming to be from UPS may claim to indicate a parcel is waiting to be delivered. These communications will generally ask you for personal information and/or a payment in advance of receiving a parcel, or may indicate a need to update your account by obtaining personal information or a copy of your UPS invoice. The links in the text messages may contain malware or direct to a fraudulent website.

If UPS contacts you regarding a parcel, the UPS representative will always be able to provide a tracking number, which you can verify on our website. You also should know that UPS may contact you from time to time regarding service offerings or for marketing purposes, but you may always verify our phone number and call back before proceeding.

If you are ever unsure of the validity of a communication, ask for the caller's first and last name and a call-back telephone number.

If you are unsure of the validity of a text, do not click or select any links or open any attachments as they may contain a virus.

There should be a reference number on the card - go through your web browser (never a QR code) - to UPS and put the number in there - should be a billing section - will tell you what is due. There should also be a parcel tracking - if I was suspicious I would track it first, find out where it is (should be collected and something like "In UK Customs" or "waiting for delivery" I reckon)

Might be that the part is to be delivered to Texas but somehow your address is the billing address?

Last thing, has he any tracking numbers for the ECU - could they be the same as what's on your card?
