I don't burn it specifically but working in a softwood sawmill I only burn softwood and haven't noticed any major difference between most of them except larch which seems to produce a notably better heat to volume rate!

All burnt on a multi fuel stove with back boiler!

I would say you are burning wet wood, the water is lowering the combustion temperature and any flames are quenched before completely burning out, that grey haze is moisture.

 

Also I have seen a restricted cowl like that blocked by soot, resulting in carbon monoxide alarm sounding in the boiler room. You do use a carbon monoxide alarm don't you?

All wood will burn if dry. Green wood left in an open sided shed will dry but not many people have the storage for that.  A system where wood is left outside for a year then inside for a few months works well.

 

I don't need a moisture meter to know that the logs shown in your last photo are not seasoned and probably still green.  There should be deep cracks and the bark should be splitting off.
