Eucalyptus attack

Can anyone shed any light on this weird, corky looking gouge out of this gum limb?

 

The limb in question is the lower right, approx. 12" diameter. The defect is 'round the back' on the main tree shot.

 

Tree is probably 60', and is in in-laws garden, so they will listen to any advice on action if necessary.

 

Minimal targets really, conny hedge, neighbours lawn.

Oh, you lot were after a serious answer. :001_rolleyes:

 

 

Stem Canker, caused by bacterium, possibly at an old branch prunning wound or exposed socket of a summer limb drop event.

 

 

Relatively harmless, unless it starts to invade the main branch unions,

thus weakening the mechanical optimisation of said branches.

 

 

 

I've been watching branches of Oaks with similar massive cankers persist for years.

 

Then again, those branches might just pop orf on the morrow :sneaky2:
