Kram, no doubt you will ignore this post as well but some people are actually trying to to help you here.

Why do you say that? I am listening.

I've asked a local arb about mentoring when they get something suitable. I'm looking at ropes and will get one.

Thank you for the books I shall have a look.

There is a rigging course with spaces available on 24th November at Scott Fraser Training in Lamberhurst, Kent.

They were previously recommended to me. However at no time of the day did either phone get answered and email got no reply, when I tried before. I assumed they were away, closed down or so busy that they didn't want any more.

I shall try again, thanks.

I do not understand the customer not being willing to pay for a groundsman as a valid excuse for not having one.

Curious of what you charged for thos job and what the difference would have been to have a ground man's?

Why would you ever give a customer an option to not pay for the job to be done properly?

The price is A - full price for a proper job or B - zero, because the job isn’t getting done.

If they want to get pikies with ladders in and have loads of mess and shit broken leave them to it.

I will admit its more that I do not want to employ anyone, I dont have the experience to become an arb business yet.

I will do small jobs that are mostly within my abilities, mostly hedge trimming and small tree pruning.

If it turns out to be beyond my ability I will get an experienced arb friend down, which as it turns out, I am doing today.

Its about 60" where I wanted to do the felling cut of the pole and having a 28" bar, thought I'd trim the side a little as theres bad access that side, garage and rubbish. Found it to be hollow where I wanted my hinge to be.

New plan is to chog it down from rope/ladder/spikes.

What would you call the basics?

Splitting of weight across a tree (2 rigging points)

lowering of a branch off itself (does that count as negative rigging?)

Rope placement and cuts to swing a horizontal branch round off a roof (no need for spider legs etc.)

Tag lines to avoid excessive swing.

And…you knew it was coming, natural crotch rigging for small/medium work.

Well in the past, you have form for doing the opposite to what has been suggested.

Its all good though, some people prefer to learn from their own experiences.

Others (me included) preferred to learn from others who have been there, done that and got the badge and T-shirt.

Hence finding someone who could act as a mentor is a great idea.

where about’s in the country are you based?
