Rowan tree health after pruning

Question

Posted

Hi,

We recently went on a tree services website and asked someone to trim overhanging branches at the back of the house. We also asked them to trim/prune the rowan tree as it was about 10 ft above the fence.

I only now know he was just a guy with a chainsaw, although he claimed to have loads of experience.

Did he do any damage? I'm not concerned with how it looks, just if it's healthy and won't die.

Thanks

Alan

Has soon as you cut a tree you do some damage . Has he done what you asked ? If so no problem .

Thanks Stubby. So you think the tree will be ok?

I do but I don't want to be hearing from your solicitor if it falls over ....

Definitely just a Guy with a Chainsaw. Lots of experience of Lopping and Topping no doubt! That looks like a class bit of topping work.

It looks terrible but I also think the tree will be fine. In the short to mid term anyway. Those cuts might shorten it's overall lifespan, but it's much too early to tell yet.

Trees gubbed. Sorbus notoriously struggle to compartmentalise any wounds, especially big header cuts like this one. Best thing you can do is try and get someone to selectively prune new growth (which will be numerous) further down the line and hope rot pockets aren't too bad
