Because there’s basically never any need for it. It’s unnecessary violence on heavy, expensive ropes and there’s usually just as much risk of mishap from swinging pieces as there is from bouncing pieces.

I know, I was joking.

 

That’s why I hardly ever do it.

 

There’s a lot of vids out there though.

 

Everything rigged until it’s time to flop a 5 tonne stem onto the shitty bit of earth that needed ‘protection’.

Neg rigging on social media is the dick-swinging of choice for many.

I would say someone will get hurt soon, but that groundy with crushed legs video has already done it, and I doubt he’s the only one.

Flipping heck.

 

I agree with all of the above. That didn't need a rope, it needed to be done in two or three smaller bits.

Or he could have stood at 90 degrees to the falling line of the log.

That is down to the climber, but someone got a GoPro for their birthday.
