Hey... I bought that !!

I was just browsing and found the website...and the forum...and the thread.....and my mill.

So I've just registered so that I could ask if anyone else has a Stihl LSG 950 mill, (made for Stihl by Logosol) and what do people think of them?

I've not used the mill yet but the 084s are both fine.

Where would I find a "helper's handle" to replace one of the 084s when milling smaller/softer wood?

I can't find any threads about Stihl mills here, can anyone point some out for me?

I have one of those although mine has a single power head duromatic bar. It does OK with one but would be vastly improved by a second head

Buy shares in BP because it’s hard on fuel with one 084

You will need more than a helper handle, you will need a bar as well. The one on mine is drilled through the nose to accommodate the helper handle so the bar has to be a duromatic.

In your position I would ditch the duromatic bar idea for a rolermatic which will need to be a little longer and make a guard to cover it.

Ian (ICTREES) has mine at the moment, I am sure he will be along to give you his take on it

I'm sure somewhere in the last year or two I've heard of a Helper's Handle that incorporates a sprocket so that it can fit directly to a double ended bar, or have I misread that?

I assembled the complete mill with both power heads for the first time today... it's seven and a half feet long !!

I need a bigger traler just to move it around.

How much wood can you mill on a full tank?

The handle on mine is just a cast ally jobbie.

I haven't seen many other stihl planking rigs, actually yours is the first so I cant comment on the bolt on roloermatic. Like I said the handle on mine bolts through the nose of the bar so it would need a handle other than the one I have.

Either way good luck finding one, the frame and bar were exorbitantly expensive at the time and I don't think it was such a good seller.

Fuel consumption will depend on species, width of cut and how sharp the chain is but suffice to say 4m of beech at 40cm width wont give you much change out of a full tank.

My ripping chain was an improvised thing, there wasn't an internet to ask back then so I took an angle grinder to every other tooth. It works OK but I haven't seen a proprietary ripping chain work on a comparable rig so my chain might be under performing. I don't use it enough to want to look into it any harder

Thanks Andy,

I found where I had seen mention of the Helpers Handle for double ended bars. Cannon Bars show one on there website, but don't seem to list it anywhere.

Next week I'll call DS Bennet and see if they can price one, it may save me some fuel from time to time, and also make the whole rig a bit shorter for transport.

It may be cheaper to by a handle than an extra bar and have it drilled.

The chain that came with my mill is almost new, it's .404 Oregon skip chain with standard 10 degree cutting angle, I wonder if anyone has found a successful mod to this chain?

Angus.
