Pickaroon not doing its bit?

Bought a bison 800mm and found that from the start it isn't digging in as I expected. I'm using it to pick up rounds to split with an axe and then to move the split wood around and save my back.

It goes into alder either bark side or cut face but I'm having difficulty getting it into cherry and it just bounces off Plum!

Should I try to file more of a cutting edge into the inside of the curve to help it cut into the wood better?

Many thanks for relevant, non pi$$ take, replies

Lidl had tiny little pickaroons reduced to almost nothing a few weeks ago, so I bought one with the intention of putting a longer handle on in the future. I've not used it yet, but the pick is laughably blunt and stubby, it makes yours look like a razor blade. So I'll definitely be grinding a much more aggressive tooth onto it.

Also interested to hear relevant replies to your question.

I think I would pass a chainsaw file across that inner beak, little at a time, until it was right but not too close to the edge. it doesn't have to be razor sharp.

Pickaroons are like knots. They have to hold but they also have to untie easily. You only want the point good ENOUGH at sticking in.

Thanks for the tip, I've just put a reef knot inside a pair of double fisherman's, now my pickaroon unties much easier 👌
