Tree surgeon Killed

Its sad to hear that a tree surgeon was killed this week while working on a Scottish power line clearance contract.

I heard that he was a very experienced man and that the top of a tree snapped out when a tree that was felled caught it snapping it out and hitting the man on the ground.

This is a stark reminder of the dangers involved in what we do .

BE SAFE !

That sounds like an accident that should not have happened, who was doing the felling? and who was supervisor?

Think you will find most accidents shouldnt happen but they do thats why its called an accident!

sad but its a harsh world out there, sorry for his family.

What I am saying is if the scenario was as it sounds I.e one guy climbing a tree while others felling around him and one said fell takes him out of his tree then this is more than just an accident.

IF the scenario is as stated then somone needs to be doing a LOT of explaining as to how even a modest R/A failed to prevent such an avoidable and obvious risk.

A sad and timely reminder of the risks involved in our work. An important point when felling trees is that dead limbs will snag and snap away easily, and can catapult out quite a distance in any given direction. hence we clear safe exit routes, and get out of the way, hopefully. And dont forget, driving a wedge in can shake loose dead material, so watch the tree all the time.

Sounds to me like nobody was climbing and he didn't lokk up or get out the way when his tree came down mate
