Here is one of two Red Deer I took last time I was home, this one was a monster.I carried himout for about three hours after skinning and gutting.I was knackered and next morning had to climb back up and get his mate!

Legs burned for about a week!

Thats nice to hear the Animals having a sale value. When I was in my late teens/early twenties, vension was selling for $3.70NZ(I think) for a head shot carcass. So one Deer like that one would have been equal to a weeks pay working in the forest. Now without an export market the animal numbers are so high the Department of Conservation shoots then from Helicopters with shotguns and rifles.

Sad in my opinon as recreational hunters could control the animal numbers and at the same time introduce you people to the great outdoors and living a resoncible lifestyle.

Ha ha! Don't worry, I'm not a bunny-hugging veggie. Just wouldn't want to shoot a wild deer that's all.

in it's simplest form, If the deer population wasn't controlled, then eventually the older Deer's teeth all fall out and they starve to death. Wouldn't you say shooting is more humane than that?

By shooting you are selectively controlling the population i.e just old or injured ones
