Tree architecture and morphophysiology symposium + Little tree Holliday

I am going with a friend to the Tree architecture and morphophysiology symposium on the 7th and 8th of April in Kew, London.

We come from Belgium and I have a few questions here

We will come a few day in advance to drive around and visit some beautiful trees in the region. Which places or trees would you advise to go to? I want to make an itinerary for 2 days in the area...

And how about sleeping in the area? We come with my friends van, or with my pickup with rooftoptent.. The van is more incognito to sleep on the road, but the pickup will be cheaper to get on the ferry to England...

We also like to have a good diner from time to time, so if you have a good restaurant recommendations near some beautiful trees, that's welcome too

You'll be fine sleeping in the van, I've yet to be moved on anywhere in the uk so if you do get asked to leave it'd be pretty bad luck. Do you use park4night? That will probably have useful spots on it. Roof tent would be a little trickier but I reckon still doable.
 

How far afield are you planning on going, will you be staying mostly in the Greater London area? Just watch out for parking fines and ULEZ charges!!

Nonington is a little way out of London Peter, near Canterbury.

It’s probably less than 30 minutes when you get off the ferry.

 

There is a pretty special oak tree there.

You'll get away with camping just by being foreign and apologetic but I'd take the van for security. Some arsehole will knife your tent.

Also, the further out of London you stay the easier it will be to stay overnight without any hassle.

This is approx 1.5 hours from Kew, quite an easy drive mostly on the M4. Really cool tree, apparently if you dance around it naked 12 times you can summon the devil 🤪
