Poor Old Tawny Owl

Just found this on our road.  Must have only just happened.  Phoned the local owl man, unfortunately no rings but he told me to wrap it in a bag and put it in the freezer and I suppose they will examine stomach contents and any wounds or disease.  Those of you in the know may be able to tell me more about its age looking at the wings

Sometimes happens when they work the hedgerows and feed on road kill .

I hit an owl in the van a couple of years ago. Saw it in a (small) town centre and thought it was a weird place for an owl to be. It set itself on a long collision course with the van. I thought, “That looks weird. But it’s a super sharp predator. It’ll pull off some evasive manoeuvre at the last second.” So I kept going. It didn’t and I picked it out of the roof rack down the road. Wondered for ages what caused it to be so dozy. The town in question is Tow Law btw. 2000 alcoholics clinging to the side of a quite bleak hill. Wouldn’t surprise me if it was on spice.

Shame!  They do fly quite low when hunting I hit one that came across a busy dual carriageway about 2ft off the ground.  Dark and raining only saw it split second before I hit it.

They are the traditional 'twit-tawoo' you hear rather than barn owls
