Pick up tailgate work bench

Got this old worktop, quite a few of them actually. But this ones scrap as it’s got a hole in it from a sink anyways…

Was thinking of mounting it to the tailgate and mounting a vice on it for sharpening chainsaws and filing rakers etc whenever I’m near the motor which isn’t very often just thought it’d be handier than bent over a stump…

Chalk mark on tailgate is where that worktop would fit when cut.

Any other suggestions or photos would be grand

Nice idea but how's it going to work in practice? I'm thinking about packing up and closing the tailgate at the end of the day. You'll need secure fixings to take the weight of the vice as well.

I've seen a picture somewhere of a mobile blacksmith or farrier's vehicle where the anvil or vice was mounted on a slide. So pulled out over the back for work and then stowed away inside for travel.

Quite a common thing on mobile workshop type vans - water/hydro board, plant fitters etc.

So if someone buys one of these vans 2nd hand they might be selling the vice and sliding mount cheap

ie

Irwin no3 sliding vice for van with fixing blocks. Used but full working condition

Same as all the other kit that might be coming out - racking, workbench, 12v sink, night heater, hoist, 12v microwave, water boiler, inverter, pto generator, etc

Fail in that. I could knock a stump vice into the wood and just use that.

Well yea , that's all I used to do . In fact that is all I do now . I have a big old quarter of an ash slice that has gone rock hard aver the years and my stump vice fits into the indentations every time . DSCF0003.jpg.b18b28d3cb99b667772e2d2fd5a94fea.jpg
