Conifer hedge in Peterborough. Flail needed.

My mates Dad is in Peterborough.

Apparently he has 100m of conifer hedge that needs reducing to 12ft.

I know, I know, but apparently he wants to keep it as a wind break.

He’s had a quote for a few grand based on 5 guys for a few days.

I can’t see anything wrong with that (I wouldn’t want to do it either).

Access is apparently really good, so I told my mate he might be better off getting a machine in, either a flail or shear depending on current size of the trees.

Can anyone recommend anything like that in the Peterborough area?

Thanks.

cant offer a recommendation for operator, but had this discussion with a chap who flailed hedges as a farming contractor, he said the big machines can mash up quite thick stuff, cant remember exactly how thick, Ive seen the aftermath on thorn, with maybe 8 inch stems chewed across

Flail will cut big stuff with right operator but you land up with a big mess on the floor which would take some clearing up. If hedge is not wide 8ton 360 with shear and smaller digger with grab and large chipper plus big tractor and trailer, but that's still going to cost.

How tall is it starting? If it starts at 13ft I'm your man. Actually scratch that I'm not desperate for 100m conifer hedge.

Matt Bell at GTS is not far from Peterborough and he has the most machinery I know of in this area, tractors, flails, merlo, heizohack etc.
