Can anyone help in identifying this? At first glance I thought oak but on closer inspection it doesn't look quite right (to my entirely untrained eye! 😂)

Leyland Cypress, Leylandii, I reckon. I can almost smell it from here!

I've not seen it in person...it's being offered up if anyone wants it. Was wondering about getting some for my log burner...

More like Thuja to me.

As for the log burner, I’ve never known a wood burn with less heat, you could get in the firebox with it wearing a jumper and still shiver.

That explains it, as sime42 says, Leylandii or similar. Burns ok, there's a thread on here about seasoning it.

 

Smell might help to identify exactly what it is if in doubt.
