Our MS500i has a load of play on the clutch side - the main bearing is basically goosed. Before I buy another has anyone else had this issue or have we just been unlucky?

I’ll get something else if these are made of the same cheese as the MS261…

Ive not heard of that being a common complaint, so Id say your just unlucky.  If its out of warranty, its still a valuable and sought after saw, so still probably worth fixing. Don't use the saw before then incase the bearing disintegrates and does further damage.

It’ll go on a shelf and be used for spare parts if I do bother with another one. I’m pretty disappointed in it tbh, not sure I’m in a rush to buy another.

Disappointed because it failed, or disappointed with how it worked? Just curious, most people seem to rave about them but I've not used one.

Maybe you need a 462? Or if you're going Husqvarna instead get a 592 or maybe 585, quite a bit cheaper.

Unfortunately modern equipment is now disposable so I wouldn't bother fixing it .

Doesn't matter what you buy anymore. Cars , saws, chip fryers etc etc.... and it's lucky dip if you get a good item.

Bullshit.

Cars, saws, TVs are better, more powerful and last longer than ever before

There were a lot of 462s with bearing failures when they first came out, parts quality is very questionable of late from all manufacturers and saws are just lasting out of warranty then going kaput.

phone Stihl and complain if it’s within warranty I have in the past and they have honoured the problem and dealt with it

I wouldn't disagree however if you read my post correctly I say they are disposable.

Yep same with anything these days.

Built to run the warranty period and if it fails before that period expires they fix it and upgrade the manufacturing of later models.

Nothing is built to be maintained anymore
