If you were doing 80 on the motorway it must have been on the back of a recovery truck or maybe you were being towed by a Toyota!!

With all the snow this year wildlife has resorted to eating bark because grass has been covered/frozen for weeks.

 

the only way a Toyota would do 80 towing anything would be if a landy was towing the Toyota!

 

There's a lot more bark took of than your photo.

I'll pull over on the hard shoulder (something Toyota drivers will be used to doin) and get some pics.

Muntjac dear will strip bark from trees,they can do a lot of dammage in short time.

I once planted a shelter belt of whips around a quarry. After two years the quarry called me to say there was a problem, the trees which had grown to approx 1.5m tall were now back down to the height of the tubes ?.

 

During the winter it had snowed, with nothing else to eat the rabbits had walked on the snow and eaten the tops off the trees completely. Once the snow had gone there was no evidence except a local guy who had seen what happened.

is he using a kerr rope? cant belive he spent all that time snatching like that, id have had the winch out after a few goes, or got a tandem pull on.
