Yes it was on an ash limb,as the growth rings of the timber depict,it also had fairly advanced ganno at the base,hence take down in a built up area.

the whole tree virtualy was infected,that particular piece was jumbled up in the heap in the yard by the time I got my paws on it,but most of the wood has hollows or shows similar colour.

We had a bat inspector on site to check each piece we lowered out,used a soft fell approach taking out whole limbs and lowering gently to the ground.no bats were found.

She was a big old ash,shame to have to take it but was getting dangerous.

The piece shown is about 18 1nches in diameter.
