I need a piece of tree-mountable boxing equipment to be certified

Hi all,

 

I'm making a piece of sports equipment* that can be mounted to a tree and would like to see how I can get the piece of equipment checked and certified by an official organisational body of arborists. Would your organisation be able to assist me in such a way?

 

It's similar to a rugby tackle pad, but one that can be fastened around the circumference of a tree and positioned there via straps that are pulled through hoops that lock in two hand-pulled straps.

For what reasons would it need to be certified by an arborist association?

Maybe he wants a callout to check if that new build sapling can take a fat arsed rugby player going up against it ?.

Similar to what GarethM says, I guess that you want to check it is safe for use... and as such that the tree is safe to be used as a support? Guessing then that your insurers have asked for this or the local council?

 

Can you give a bit more information - example, a sapling might not be able to take it but a 100 year old tree probably would - and  I guess that you want to use the older trees just for size?

 

I would go back to whoever has asked you to get this for more information what they would accept.

Yes exactly, I'm looking to reassure a potential customer that the tree behind the bag they're punching wont be harmed by the impact of their punch, so asking an arborist/organisation to officially legitimise the safety of the product with a 'stamp of approval' would help illuminate any concern a customer might have. 

 

The pad itself can only be mounted to trees of 85cm circumference or larger which from extensive testing don't even sway in the slightest when the bag is in use.

Maybe you could post some pictures so we can see what you've got.

 

That said, I don't know where you'd get official  certification but it doesn't sound like it's likely to cause damage. If it's padded enough you can punch it without hurting yourself then I'd think the tree is much less fragile than knuckles, and you won't push a healthy tree over very easily at all. When climbing a tree to work I'll anchor my body weight from a branch as small as 10-15cm diameter if needed.

 

Any damage you could possibly cause I'd say would be rubbing the bark away to leave the cambium exposed but that would take a lot of rubbing.
