Waste Licences and Exemptions. What do we need?

Recommended Posts

Morning to you all.

We are a company based in Staffordshire and wanting some advise regarding what waste licences and possible exemptions we need?

We work for Staffordshire Council who are happy for chippings to be taken. In this instance and similar instances what do we as a company need to do legally?

We also work with a biomass company who wants our logs for their biomass boilers, again what do we need to do here to comply with law?

Are you asking about in transit or for a empty site.

It's easier if it's a current farm, as you can operate using agricultural exemptions ?.

If you're also working with biomass you might need planning approval for hgv access depending on volume.

Your not bringing in waste treated timber I presume?.

Plus what BSL requirements will you need to comply with?.

Only if you are the active farmer and you require the chippings for an agricultural use such as cow bedding.

There's are a few other categories including compost etc, woodchip falls within the farming diversification aswell as storage categories.

It's why I asked if it's a farm or just a site. Transport access is taken into account and it's less restrictive working hours etc. And that's before you get to anything environmental, no doubt surface water containment, pollution etc.

For England you need to register here

https://environmentliconline.co.uk/?gclid=CjwKCAjwyqWkBhBMEiwAp2yUFn3fBWZldgjPbJn5uqhcfeuX0Qrkz6j2jokTl8h6HyUlynQ0NjtTghoCD7QQAvD_BwE

From what you describe IE a tree surgery business moving ARB waste (logs and chip), it sounds like you'd need the lower tier - but all the answers are there.

You shouldn't need any more than that if all you are doing is moving from A to B and dropping off - and that is where your involvement ends.
