Stihl MS500i bark box

Are there any advantages to fitting a bark box to a 500i? Do they run cooler, does it make any difference to longevity of the saw, or is it just a boy racer mod to make more sound? Are they detrimental to the saw?

No, it will just make your ears bleed, and piss everybody off around you.

Yup, as above, stupidly excessively loud in the name of performance. If you work in deepest forest, fill your boots, if you do domestic/commercial in built up areas, forget it.

Yes....think of a Vauxhall Nova with an exhaust with an outlet the diameter of a baked bean can.

I know of two locally. Whether they run better I don't know really as only used them a tiny bit. But oh my life they are loud. As in Dougie Lampkin on steroids loud.
