The plate has three grousers welded across the top for a bit of grip and a ring on the bottom for the jack to seat into.  The tree didn't look all that much, but it was heavy.

Cutting mostly central belt, occasional forays further south or north, sometimes even into Argyll.😵

We go as far up as Erskine Bridge ways Auchentourlie, and Dumfries and Galloway and Argyll (not yet been to Bute but it will come. Apparently the wood is amazing).

Can you send a photo of the top of your plate mate?

Butes got some big trees mostly in the grounds around Castle Stuart.  They lost a lot of big field trees in 2012 when we had a localised storm.  Always enjoyed working there, something about getting on a ferry I think.  My view from my house growing up was looking over to Bute.

This hairy back leaner couldn't go the way it wanted so had to be jacked in.  It put up a bit of a fight!  Think the base of the jack was about an inch into the stump.

I take your one inch, and raise you another 5.

Needless to say the jack didn't push the tree over

Hahaha. Welded up some 1 inch mesh onto my plate. See if that will get a better hold on the butt of the log.
