 A damaged crank seal will not reduce secondary compression (compression in the combustion chamber). What it will cause is a leak under pressure or vacuum in the crankcase which may cause the engine to overheat and run badly.

Your compression gauge - have you tested that it reads 150-170psi on a good running machine?

That is a way around the import laws regarding copy/fake saws. Can't import snide saws due to manufacturer IP, but can imports and sell 'parts'  but, it just so happens that 'kit' is all the components to make the saw

Just not necessarily one that will run.

 

Still, it’s probably a more entertaining activity over Christmas than doing a jigsaw.

Thank you guys. I'm not certain on the compression tester right now...Will post a pic or two tomorrow if you still don't mind helping me out. 

 

On a surprisingly positive note I messaged the seller politely pointing out it was a fake and he's said he will refund me the money. No biggie as only 40 notes but pretty cool. Also said u should keep the saw as he's no use for it either! What do do next? Would like to get it running if possible to then work out whether to skip it or not. Thanks again for all your time and advice. Til tomorrow...👍

Awesome.  If you get your money back, you have a free saw!

Regarding compression, you can get a pretty good idea from if you hold the saw by the pull cord.  No compression it will drop quickly, enough compression it will hold or drop very slowly.

 

Please get that decomp valve plugged for £2 so you can eliminate that as an issue:
