Stihl ms 390 18" bar

Hi All, I've been offered a Stihl ms 390 18" bar, little use, the lad bought a bigger one.

I'm just into Stump Grinding.

 

Would this chainsaw be any good?

 

I Would appreciate any comments.

Good workhorse, but nowt cuts low good for very long!

Buy a cheap model from B&Q with plenty of files. Seriously it would be as good as any saw for cutting low, again buy plenty of files, and you may find you will want a longer bar. Out of interest what is the going price to grind out an average size stump?

Hi, we have had 3 stumps done for as little as £85.00 and then on the other hand paid £110.00 for a bigger single stump.

I wont take the grinder out for less than 50 quid and then it has to be local, it all depends on the size access and what it is, did a 4 foot oak stump for 200 quid once, took a good while as oak is hard and goosed a set of teeth so thats another hour back home on the grinder sharning them up again. I will knock a few quid off work hear and there but i wont barter on grinding as it can be hard work and they can cost a lot to keep in good condition. Theres a Landscape bloke near me that advertises "the cheapest grinding in Leeds" i laff when i read his adds and let him get on with it, his machine is out much more than mine doing smaller stuff but when his is knackered and he's made no money doing it i can get more work and a better price.

I quite agree with you, we work on that principal with our fencing.
