I’ve started to do more of my own work again, less contracting. In December I did three big, for me jobs, drawing the money has been painful. I’ve got it in now but I wonder if it’s worth it. Perhaps contracting and getting paid every week/month is easier?

Payment times are becoming worse and worse

I guess I shouldn’t moan, but I’m looking to buy a boat without financing atm and I need every penny to get on. I’m fecked off with people not paying on time.

Back when I was subbed in to a road squad the wait time was three clear months from the end of the month you were being paid for, that was standard across the board.

Always got paid mind but those first three months were lean!

No it wasn’t across board, I worked a road gang in the ‘90’s and got paid monthly.

Good for you.

Every other person who I knew or could find hiring in plant were on the same terms.

Good for me?

When I worked the roads I was paid monthly, just like the rest of the lads. I presume you were contacting in? Which this post is about.

Why not build into your prices a early payment discount of sorts, similar to late payment penalties.

It's the only way you will ever get customers or suppliers to pay earlier than the standard 30 days but it has to be say £150.

I had one argue with me it's 30 days depending on when I invoiced in the month, ended up being 7wks to get paid.

The exception to the rule is some local councils have a immediate payment scheme for businesses with less than 250 employees.
