Flue help

I have an existing chimney but it looks like my opening is to small for the multifuel stove I require, Im thinking about building a false chimney in front of the existing fireplace and installing the flue out of the back of the stove and up my existing chimney. Would this be ok?

Generally, no as they will need access to the chimney for inspection and cleaning.

 

Whilst adapting the chimney breast would be easiest it would need a register plate fitting.

 

Probably more efficient to get a professional in to fit a liner to reduce wood consumption.

You may be able to open up the chimney but don't just go at it as you may need to let in a steel lintel (or a strip of thick steel)  to stop the thing falling in. 

Sometimes, old houses have had their chimneys reduced and you just need to reverse the earlier work.

Our kitchen had a stanley oil burner cooker with flue disappearing through wall. On exploration found 4 different fireplace incarnations and ended up with a 10ft wide granite linteled inglenook, which now has a  solid fuel Rayburn sitting in it along  with the electric stove.

This will be the way I'm connecting the stove to the liner in the existing chimney, my only concern is how to make the connections inside the chimney, The flue liner will be 5", I would be able to make a 9" wide hole in the chimney, Would the flexible liner be flexible enough to bring through that hole to make the connections to the liner, adapter and the 45 degree elbow and then return all back in to the chimney? Or do you guys know  better way of doing this? Please note the existing chimney is in the middle of the house with no access to either the sides or rear of the chimney, just the front. many thanks

If you are careful I guess you can do this technically, take enough bricks out the chimney to let you have access to install the liner and then put the bricks back in again after?
