Used to use tallow back in the day but the along came Rocol cutting fluids . The gloopy one was especially good for tapping on all metals .

Remember that green "Trefolex" stuff?? We used to use it when threading the ends of pipes..

Used that all my life and for @stubby I still rely on Rocol's  anti scuffing paste, the tins sit on top of each other on the window sill next to the vice.

 

I don't know what the latest brand names are as I've still got enough of the old stuff to last me 2 more lifetimes.

 

Another gem was Timesaver lapping compound, 'guaranteed not to continue to cut' was their usp  green and yellow👍

Yep I remember Trefolex now you say it . Used that before Rocol  . TheTrefolex was like a tin of light green snot !

Yes, i loved the smell of Trefolex.. was green gunge as you say!! It was banned some years ago for some funny reason.. You CAN still get it now, but it is not the original stuff.

When i worked in the boilerhouse we used it for threading the steam barrel as it was called. Was all a very long time ago.. I still love the place though..
