We appear to have a couple of new residents in the pond.

They also appear to like the present  "weather for ducks!" we are experiencing.

Moorhen in French is Poule d’eau, literally water chicken which sums them up really.

Always had a soft spot for these daft buggers, adaptable survivors who eke out a living in the most difficult of circumstances, preyed on by just about everything, and bottom of the ladder to ducks, coots and everything else that calls the waterways their home.

My Jack Russell ‘Pirate’ was obsessed by them and the way they sought refuge under the banks of ponds.

Dont think he ever caught one.

When I used to shoot sporting clays some times a stand was trying to replicate  " Floppy  More Hen " . More often than not it was the most missed stand on offer . Deceptively slow when evading prey and there fore surviving when predated . I have a soft spot for the little fellas .
