Do tree climber still use the old school becket hitch for attaching your lanyard to your d ring

I'm a old school tree climber and was curious if tree climbers still use the becket hitch for attaching there lanyard to there d rings? And how long have you been using the becket hitch for?

I did it when I first started, but that was over 25 years ago. Only used it since when I had missing kit

Not as many years but I've never heard of it (that I can remember) seen it or used it. 

 

To the op, is there any reason to use it instead of say a bowline or barrel knot?

The old climber (in his 60’s then) who showed it me used it on inch thick hemp rope. Nasty to use

What do you mean nasty to use? like annoying?

Hemp rope is rough to the hands and knots poorly. It is easy to splice though . Plus at that diameter it was very numb in small trees- after a couple of months I ditched it.

Did you ever use a steel core lanyard with the becket hitch thew a d ring?

I have tried it & it works. Just better things out there for me
