Was using my (fairly new) Husky 435 II and heard a rattling sound. Subsequent investigation revealed that the starter pulley had broken. Fitted a genuine replacement, started the saw up and shut it down around 5 times - only to find the exact same thing had happened again!

Am (understandly) reluctant to fit another pulley without understanding what the cause might be. Has this happened to anyone else?

Is the starter cord full length, do you pull till the dogs engage then go for it and feed it back slowly or let the spring whip back in ?

Thanks to all for the suggestions.

I never drop start saws. Pawls and spring are good. I seem to recall the cord 'whipping back' prior to the first broken pulley - but not the second. The (original cord) is a couple of inches shorter after I cut the knot above the starter handle twice.

Think I'll try a new (full length) cord and being less 'aggressive'!
