Podocarpus Gracilier yellowing

Question

Hello, we’ve had some very healthy Podocarpus for close to a year now. I water them about 12 gallons of water 3 Tim’s a week. I’ve recently seen some yellowing on a few of the trees and unsure whether it’s to much or to little water. I live in the coastal canyon near Malibu CA.  I’ve attached a couple pics of the healthy and yellowing leaves from one of the trees.  Any advice on what the yellowing might mean would be very helpful.

thank you,

Trent

Without knowing your climate intimately, difficult to say. It sounds a lot of water to me but I live in the UK and we mainly rely on the rain.

What about investing in a soil moisture meter? You are right that too much or too little can cause problems, and it could be nutrients, but get the watering right first before you try dosing anything else.

Thanks Dan, we are in a coastal canyon area in Southern California. Still In drought conditions with not a lot of rain through the year.

I have used one of the soil sample tools, checking about 20” down around the root ball. So far it seems to be moist but not saturated down there.

If the moisture is right then nutrients would be next. All that water poured through might be washing nutrients away.
