Who do you insure your diggers with?

Trust (who insure them as a bolt-on to my liability insurance).

I just had confirmation from them that the diggers are covered onsite if secured in a heras compound overnight. It’s not something we do as a rule (and I wouldn’t do it with anything under 3 tonnes as feel it would be too risky, insured or not) but have a job coming up where it is necessary.

JCB understand the nature of plant, and the fact that machinery is left on site overnight. They don't have bullshit clauses (or bullshitter salesmen) like Trust do.

NFU informed me they no longer insure diggers used for forestry/tree work

I had a quote off them last week - already have a tractor insured with them for forestry/tree work (insured as ‘special types, a lot more expensive than ag tractor which I also have with them). They would cover the diggers in the same way (but maybe because I already have a policy in place) - was expensive though so didn’t bother moving.

Yeah left Trust for that reason- locked compound they said. Complete bollocks. I go with Cornish Mutual now. They may not be the cheapest but someone actually came out to the yard- looked over all the plant took serial numbers etc before giving me a quote- just instills more confidence in the event of a claim.

JCB through cover sure are offering a good price, the sales man has promise the world though and I'm wary.

Basically has told me its insured for anything anywhere, doesn't even need a fence around it.  Unable to show me the policy wording that backs this up however.
