Meindl boot mid sole decay

Is anyone else having problems with their Meindl boots mid sole decay. I've been wearing Meindl boots in Arb for the last 20+ years and they have been comfortable and solid straight out of the box, but my last two pairs have only lasted about 14 months with both pairs failing at the mid sole but plenty of grip still left on the sole. Older boots/models lasted 2+ years, I think they have changed the build design for the worse and I will now be looking at Haix boots. Would like to hear from anybody with the same Meindl boot problem. Take care.

I've had this happen to quite a few different makes of boots including Meindl, Salomon and Raichle all top brands, not Arb boots but I've long since chosen to wear mountain boots at work due to comfort and support.

It's since they started using a Polyurethane midsoles and is a pita. the midsole is perished by a combination of time and UV light so for instance I bought a bnib pair of Meindl Island boots s/h and unworn at a decent price of £100 so £140 cheaper than retail, I was delighted with them until I took a few steps in the living room and the midsoles turned to dust.

Not all bad as I got my money back and got to keep the boots, In the UK and Ireland Meindl boots get repaired through Bramwell international who then send them back to Germany to Meindl's own repair workshop I think it was about £80  plus return post to Bramwell in England, £20 ish.

All new sole including the rand, new laces,  a pair of insoles and a Tin of wax.. so not too bad as long as the rest of the boots are worth it👍.... There's quite an interesting vid on youtube of Meindls repair shop which is still very traditional and purely old school.

Here at Bramwell International, we are the official distributors of MEINDL footwear and accessories. Supplying the...

Thanks for the post Woody. I'm hoping LSR boot repair in Lancashire can fix as they offer sole and mid-sole replacement, but will have to wait and see. My post is mainly about my disappointment of Meindl durability, having once been an industry leader. Are they now a poor second to other makes? Would like to know if other people are having the same problem. Best wishes.

Thanks for the reply Macpherson, well informed and I will definitely send in to fix as I think there is some life left in the pair. It is  shame they have changed the mid-sole compound. Best wishes.

Yep, I'm not sure about chainsaw boots but pretty much all of the top brands of mountain boots are the same now as they compete with each other, I think it started as a comfort / weight reduction thing but it's also built - in obsolescence which is a pity as many of these boots are getting on for £300 a pair.

Even worse, some brands like Salomon for instance won't even provide the likes of LSR soles at all so when they wear down the boots are for the bin, cheers.
